Newsmakers -- Dr. James D. Griffin

Dr. James D. Griffin, associate professor of anesthesiology and pain management, was recently appointed chairman, chief medical officer of the Texas Correctional Managed Health Care Committee by Gov. Rick Perry. The committee manages the health care provided by UT Medical Branch at Galveston and Texas Tech Health Sciences Center for state prison inmates.

Dr. Griffin was first appointed to this committee in 2000 by then Gov. George W. Bush and reappointed by Gov. Perry in 2001.
Dr. Griffin received his medical degree from UT Southwestern in 1986 and also completed his residency at the medical center. He joined the faculty in 1990.
