Class of 1960: Richard L. Mabry, M.D., in April released his fifth novel of medical suspense, Stress Test. After retiring from UT Southwestern Medical Center as Professor of Otolaryngology, Dr. Mabry went on to become an award-winning novelist.
Class of 1962: H. Reginald McDaniel, M.D., is on the visiting consultation faculty at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine as a Consultant in Clinical Experimental Design.
Class of 1965: Jack W. Bonner III, M.D., Emeritus Clinical Professor, University of South Carolina School of Medicine-Greenville, received the Senior Psychiatrists’ 2013 Berson Award at the 166th Annual Meeting of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). The Harold E. Berson Lifers Award is presented annually to the psychiatrist who has made a significant contribution to psychiatry after becoming a Life Member or Life Fellow of the APA. Dr. Bonner, a Distinguished Life Fellow, received the award May 21 in San Francisco.
Class of 1972: Richard D. Sontheimer, M.D., was awarded the 2013 Medical Dermatology Society Lifetime Achievement Award. Much of his work in the area of rheumatologic skin disease was performed at UT Southwestern as a Dermatology research fellow, resident, and faculty member. Currently, Dr. Sontheimer is a Professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City.
Class of 1983: Cynthia Sherry, M.D., was installed as the 130th President of the Dallas County Medical Society on Jan. 24. Dr. Sherry is Chair of Radiology at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and a member of the Radiology Associates of North Texas.
Class of 1984: John Rubinow, M.D., who was always known for his love of baseball while at UT Southwestern, has founded a nonprofit called PBBC Under the Radar. The organization grants college scholarships to financially challenged high school baseball players in the U.S. For more information, go to pbbcundertheradar.org.
Class of 2003: Damien Luviano, M.D., a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist with an emphasis on diabetic retinopathy and macular edema, is now the Editor for the Comprehensive Section at the Academy of Ophthalmology Online News and Education Network (ONE Network).
Lisa Garner, M.D., (Dermatology) assumed the office of Vice President of the American Academy of Dermatology on March 5.
Bradford Patt, M.D., (Otolaryngology residency completed, 1992) was installed on Jan. 18 as 2013 President of the Houston Academy of Medicine.
Class of 2008: Michele Noonan, Ph.D., has co-founded a new social network for sex education and dating advice, Sexpinion, which launched May 23.
