Mayra Olivares-Urueta, Director of Student Affairs and Instructor in the Department of Health Care Science Education and Research in the School of Health Professions, has been named a Graduate Fellow for 2012 by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education. Ms. Olivares-Urueta is a third-year doctoral student in higher education with a minor in anthropology at the University of North Texas. She represents UNT and its Higher Education Program among a select group of Hispanic graduate students across the country.

Dr. Rashmi Shetgiri, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, has received a grant of $630,000 over five years from the National Institutes of Health for her project on community-based prevention of Latino youth violence. Dr. Shetgiri joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2009 and also works on staff at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, and her research focuses on prevention of adolescent violence and bullying, racial/ethnic health disparities, and Latino community-partnered research. Dr. Shetgiri has been interviewed by national and international media on bullying and youth-violence prevention strategies.
