Employee Advisory Council selects Andrews as Chair
By Ali V. Adams
Tara Andrews, Operations Manager of Parking Services and a member of the Employee Advisory Council (EAC) since its inception, began her first term as new Chair of the EAC effective Sept. 1.
Mrs. Andrews, elected by EAC members to the post, said her work with the EAC and in her job has provided strong insight into employee needs.
“I look forward to pushing the mission of the EAC and getting employees engaged and committed through a supportive, positive, and productive work environment,” Mrs. Andrews said.
A UT Southwestern Medical Center employee for eight years, Mrs. Andrews was promoted to Operations Manager in 2007. She manages a staff of 12 as head of the Parking Services Department. To further her professional development, Mrs. Andrews is pursuing a master’s degree in management and administrative sciences through UTSW.
“I truly believe that had I not reached out to take advantage of some of the opportunities presented at UTSW, I would not be where I am today,” Mrs. Andrews said.
The 15-member EAC consists of administrative and professional staff elected by their peers. So far this fiscal year, the EAC has met twice to discuss issues from the members’ respective districts, along with employee engagement and recognition activities.
Shawna Ridley, Director of Health Information Management-Faculty Practice Plan, transitioned to the role of past Chair on Sept. 1 and serves as an advisor to the EAC. Ms. Ridley said she knows the 2013 officers will work diligently for the Medical Center. They include Vice Chair Cindy Robinson, Senior Administrative Associate, Anesthesiology and Pain Management; and Secretary Brenda Pallares, Senior Administrative Associate, Cell Biology.
“By capitalizing on what we’ve already established in the preceding years, and being vigilant in pursuing and achieving new goals for the next fiscal year, the EAC will strengthen the platform for the transfer of ideas and information between employees and executive management,” Ms. Ridley said.
