In Memoriam: Dr. John Hickman
Dr. John Hickman, a clinical professor of psychiatry who worked with UT Southwestern residents for more than 20 years to improve their clinical skills, died Feb. 3 of complications of type 1 diabetes, a disease he had battled for more than 60 years.
Dr. Hickman, 77, practiced in Dallas until late 2008 and long was a resource for psychiatric residents, providing feedback on their patient interview styles and care.
“You could often ‘hear’ Dr. Hickman when residents spoke,” said Dr. Paul Mohl, professor of psychiatry. “He was a very senior psychiatrist with long years of practice demonstrating what it meant to be a physician, a psychiatrist, and to care about patients.”
Memorials may be made to the Dr. John F. Hickman Scholarship Award at Southwestern Medical Foundation, 2305 Cedar Springs Road, Suite 150, Dallas, TX 75201-7805.
