IBD support group sets first meeting March 10

A newly formed patient support group for anyone affected by inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, will hold a kickoff meeting at 5:15 p.m. March 10, in the fourth-floor conference room of the Outpatient Building.

UT Southwestern President Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, an international authority on inflammatory bowel disease, will speak at the inaugural meeting of the group.

“This group is a forum where patients and their relatives can learn from each other to cope with their difficult disease,” said Dr. Prabhakar Swaroop, assistant professor of internal medicine and director of the Crohn’s and colitis program.

In addition to exchanging ideas and life experiences, group members will learn about disease and symptom management and hear from experts about the latest treatments. In the future, nutritional therapy information may be incorporated into the meetings.

Initially the group will meet once every two months, but it could meet more frequently depending on demand. The public is welcome, but reservations should be made by March 1 by calling Rose Dewald at 214-645-0595.
