CPRIT presents $21 million for cancer research

Joining recently to celebrate the presentation of $21 million to UT Southwestern in support of cancer-related research and prevention programs and services are (from left) Jimmy Mansour, chairman of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas oversight committee; Dr. Becky Garcia, chief prevention officer of CPRIT; Cindy Brinker Simmons, secretary of the CPRIT board; state Sen. Jane Nelson, sponsor of Proposition 15, which created CPRIT; Dr. James Willson, director of the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center; Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, president of UT Southwestern; Bill Gimson, executive director of CPRIT; and Dr. Alfred Gilman, chief scientific officer of CPRIT and professor emeritus at UT Southwestern. In 2007 Texas voters approved a constitutional amendment that authorized the state to fund cancer research and prevention programs.
