117 awarded diplomas in health professions

Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, president of UT Southwestern, recently conferred diplomas on 117 students graduating from the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions.
The Dec. 13 commencement ceremony took place in the Tom and Lula Gooch Auditorium and was witnessed by faculty, friends and family of the graduates as well as by Dr. J. Gregory Fitz, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at UT Southwestern.
The School of Health Professions graduated its first class in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program on Dec. 13. Among the 31 conferees were (from left) Victoria Lopez, Jordan Litt, Dawn Juon and Donald Helsey.
The graduates included students from physical therapy, physician assistant studies, clinical nutrition, medical laboratory sciences and prosthetics-orthotics. All completed their studies in May, August or December 2009.
Dr. Raul Caetano, dean of the School of Health Professions, presided over the event. Alumna Theresa Haibach provided the opening remarks, and Dr. Jon Williamson, associate dean of the school, presented program descriptions.
Dr. Lori Gonzalez, dean of the College of Health Sciences and professor of communication disorders at the University of Kentucky, delivered the commencement address.
Dr. Chung-Yi Chiu, assistant professor of rehabilitation counseling, and Dr. Fan Gao, assistant professor of health care sciences, served as marshals. Magistrates included Karen McCain and Edward Mulligan, assistant professors of physical therapy; as well as Cristina Gonzalez and Jennie Hocking, assistant professors of physician assistant studies.
