Artistic talents shine at art show

 

More than 50 artists who are part of the UT Southwestern Medical Center community were recognized recently at the 15th Annual “On My Own Time” reception, held at the A.W. Harris Faculty and Alumni Center on the South Campus.

STARS offers lofty campus participation

 

The 2015 Science Teacher Access to Resources at Southwestern (STARS) summer research program allowed 40 high school students and 10 teachers from Dallas-Fort Worth area schools to take part in programs and projects in laboratories across UTSW.

In Memorium – Dr. James H. “Red” Duke Jr.

 

Dr. James H. “Red” Duke Jr., who graduated from UT Southwestern Medical School and went on to become a renowned surgeon, medical educator, and Texas icon, died Aug. 25 at age 86.

Biochemist who searches extreme environments to hold Steiner Professorship

 

Dr. John MacMillan, Associate Professor of Biochemistry, has been selected as the inaugural holder of the Martha Steiner Professorship in Medical Research. Dr. MacMillan searches for new antibiotics and cancer therapies by studying aquatic bacteria.

Dr. Ludwig A. Michael: Professor Emeritus of Otolaryngology

 

Dr. Ludwig A. Michael, a noted physician and Professor Emeritus of Otolaryngology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, died on Oct. 1. He was 96.

Radiation therapy program director selected

 

Kameka Rideaux, a veteran of 14 years in radiation therapy services in Texas, recently became Program Director of Radiation Therapy for the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions.

Exercising two to four times minimum levels progressively reduces risk of heart failure

 

Exercising at double or quadruple current recommended minimum levels significantly reduces the risk of heart failure, a study by UT Southwestern Medical Center cardiologists found.

Class Reunion 2015

 

The event began with a dinner, on Sept. 24, honoring the Class of 1965, which celebrated its 50-year anniversary, followed with an evening reception on Sept. 25 to greet all classes as a group.

Lung cancer researcher named Giant of Cancer Care

 

Cancer biologist Dr. John Minna, with the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center, has been named a “Giant of Cancer Care.”
