Speed Mentoring

Modeled after the speed dating concept, this event gave female faculty members (instructor through associate professor) and postdocs at UT Southwestern the opportunity to meet and gain perspective from multiple enthusiastic mentors from both basic and clinical sciences. Attendees brought their questions such as:

• When did you find time to write papers when your children were young?
• I'm swamped with clinical work with little time for other academic pursuits. How should I approach this issue with my division chief?
• How do I negotiate with my chair?
• How do I break up with a mentor?
• What do you do if your graduate student or postdoc is not performing well?
• How did you balance career and family?
