Putting on the white coat for the first time is a major milestone in the medical school journey.

First held at UT Southwestern Medical Center in 1997, the White Coat Ceremony emphasizes the importance of the passage from preclinical studies to becoming a proficient physician who is caring and compassionate.

The ceremony is centered on the UT Southwestern Academic Colleges, which establish a learning community that brings together gifted faculty with small groups of students.
