Functions and regulation of the Glut1 glucose transporter

Glucose is widely considered to be the primary fuel and synthetic precursor for normal cells, and especially for transformed cells. In particular, Glut1, the “erythrocyte/brain” facilitative glucose transporter, is highly expressed in many cell types including keratinocytes and many cancers.

We are studying the regulation of Glut1 by post-translational modifications.

In addition, we have generated tissue specific knockouts of the Glut1 transporter to better understand its functions in both normal physiology and tumorigenesis.
