Novel Metabolism and Drug Development diagram
Novel metabolism and drug discovery in Plasmodium and trypanosome parasites

The Phillips lab is focused on studying the function and regulation of biochemical pathways in protozoal parasites, and on exploiting these pathways for new drug discovery. We have two major projects of longstanding interest:

  • The polyamine biosynthetic pathway in Trypanosoma brucei
  • Targeting the pyrimidine biosynthetic pathway in Plasmodium falciparum for new drug discovery.

We also have a third collaborative project that focuses on using RNAi to identify essential enzymes in T. brucei.
