In 1997, Dr. Grinnell published an essay for the Nobel Foundation that looked at how UT Southwestern's unique history and research environment created a setting "that encouraged the growth and development of two assistant professors who started out with minimal resources" and went on to win the Nobel Prize. The essay looks at how the philosophy of an institution can shape the way that science performs.
