Our laboratory is focused on understanding the mechanisms responsible for liver bile formation. We are exploring several exciting areas including mechanosensitive signaling along the bile ducts, regulation of ATP release and stimulation of membrane purinergic receptors, and identification and regulation of membrane ion channels. We utilize several novel models of hepatic parenchymal cells (hepatocytes) and biliary epithelial cells (cholangiocytes) as well as sophisticated electrophysiologic, imaging, and molecular approaches.
