Grand Prize Winners for 2007 are:
- Joseph Yuan, Ph.D., Physiology, mentor Shmuel Muallem, Ph.D
- Noriko Funato, DDS, Ph. D., Molecular Biology, mentor Hiromi Yanagisawa, MD, Ph.D.
- Junseog Kang, Ph.D., Pharmacology, mentor Hongtao Yu, Ph.D.
- This is the inaugural year for the Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Research. Criteria for the award included the scholar’s creativity, productivity, and presentation skills, his or her research project’s probable scientific impact, originality, and potential to set a continuing research path. The award includes a check for $2000, a framed certificate, and the prestige of presenting the award winning research at the University Lecture on December 12, 2007. The 2007 winner of the Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Research is Angelique Whitehurst, Ph.D.

- Career Basics Booklet: Available for Free Download
Science Careers' editorial team released "Career Basics: Advice and Resources for Scientists" in early 2007, and in less than three months, more than 5,000 print copies of the booklet were distributed. To keep up with demand, Science Careers has made both an HTML and a PDF version available for download. The booklet provides advice and help on preparing CVs and resumes, writing grants and scientific papers, networking, and more. Access your copy.
- The American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) has announced the Compact Between Postdoctoral Appointees and Their Mentors. The Compact, a document intended to initiate discussions at the local and national levels about the postdoctoral appointee-mentor relationship and the commitments necessary for a high quality postdoctoral training experience, was unanimously endorsed by the GREAT Group at its October 8, 2006, annual business meeting. - The Office of Research Integrity (ORI) in the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has recognized UT Southwestern as having a model postdoctoral program on the responsible conduct of research. The program is featured in the December 2006 ORI newsletter.
