Biography

Dr. Jonathan Cheng is a native of Houston, Texas.  He is a graduate of Rice University, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Chemical Physics and a minor in Art History.  He received his medical doctorate from Baylor College of Medicine, and completed postgraduate training in Plastic Surgery at Medical College of Wisconsin, and hand, microvascular, and peripheral nerve surgery at Washington University in St. Louis.  Dr. Cheng was the recipient of the Kroll Memorial Scholarship, which allowed him to obtain specialized training in perforator flap and breast reconstructive microsurgery at University Hospital Gent.

Dr. Cheng provides skilled and compassionate care for adults and children at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children's Medical Center in Dallas.  He specializes in Plastic Surgery, with subspecialty expertise in hand surgery, peripheral nerve reconstruction, and microvascular surgery.  His practice encompasses the entire spectrum of aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.

Dr. Cheng performs basic science research in nerve regeneration and nerve-machine interfaces.  He has received competitive funding from federal research agencies.  His research is focused on developing widely applicable solutions for real-world clinical problems.
