Biography

My clinical and research interests focus on cardiovascular risk and disease among women with polycystic ovarian syndrome and other disorders of androgen excess. Although these women have a higher risk for insulin resistance, the metabolic syndrome and other cardiovascular risk factors, it is not clear whether they are at increased risk for cardiovascular events. Through research in the Dallas Heart Study and the use of non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging studies of the coronary arteries, it is our goal to better understand the contributions of insulin resistance and sex steroid hormones to cardiovascular risk and disease.
