Biography
Dr. Moore earned his bachelor?s of Science from Syracuse University, Syracuse NY in Biology. In 1989 he enrolled in Emory University in Atlanta where he obtained a master?s and Ph.D. in Neurophysiology. His focus was on intracellular calcium regulation and the G-protein second messenger pathways. He then obtained his MD degree also from Emory University after a brief post doctoral position in the lab of Ron Abercrombie Ph.D.. In 1998 he moved to UTSW Medical Center in Dallas for his general Pediatrics training. He then obtained his training in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Boston Children?s in the Harvard School of Medicine combined training program. For his research project he worked under David Clapham MD, PhD at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Boston on a project to identify the genes for the calcium release activated calcium channel. Upon completion of his sub-specialty training, he returned to Emory University and Children?s Healthcare of Atlanta as an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics. He was appointed the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Director in January 2006 and served in that role for more than 5 years. He oversaw the growth in the Neonatology fellowship program by more than 50 percent. His research interests have moved from the basic science laboratory to clinical research related to NEC and ECMO. Dr. Moore has been actively involved in resident and fellowship education. He moved back to UT Southwestern in July 2011 as an associate professor, and now serves as the medical director of the NICU at Dallas Children?s Medical Center.
