Biography

Jeffrey M. Kenkel, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. He is the Director of the Clinical Center for Cosmetic Laser Treatment and Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Dallas. His clinical practice is located at the Aston Ambulatory Care Building on the campus of UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Kenkel received his undergraduate education at Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts, and his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine. After completing his general surgery residency at Georgetown, he obtained his plastic surgery training at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, graduating in 1996. He has been on the faculty at the University since then, being promoted to Associate Professor in 2000, just four years after joining the faculty. He was recently promoted to full professor of plastic surgery. Dr. Kenkel is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). He is also a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society, The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, The Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, and is past president of the Dallas Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Kenkel serves on the Board of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) which is the leading organization of board-certified plastic surgeons specializing in cosmetic plastic surgery. He is treasurer of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF). He also chairs the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS)/American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) Post Bariatric Task Force committee in charge of educating plastic surgeons and patients about surgical options after massive weight loss. He is co-chair of ASAPS educational commission responsible for educating plastic surgeons nationally and internationally. Dr. Kenkel is an expert and leading authority in ultrasound assisted liposuction (UAL). He is co-author of Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction, the first textbook and video on the subject. He is editor of "Body Contouring After Massive Weight Loss", a supplement published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the leading plastic surgery journal. He is the editor and contributing author for Selected Readings in Plastic Surgery, the most up-to-date teaching tool for plastic surgeons in training and in practice in the United States and thirty-eight foreign countries. He remains actively involved in the education of plastic surgeons around the country, speaking about breast and aesthetic plastic surgery. He was integral in teaching UAL to plastic surgeons throughout the world, serving as a faculty member and chair of numerous teaching courses. He has published extensively in various medical journals and texts. His research focuses on body contouring and aesthetic lasers. Dr. Kenkel´s clinical interests include cosmetic breast surgery, aesthetic surgery of the face, liposuction and body contouring (including abdominoplasty), body contouring after massive weight loss and skin care encompassing chemical peels and laser technology. Dr. Kenkel grew up in the Washington, D.C. area. He is married and has two children. His hobbies include an attempt at golf, ice hockey, running and music. He also serves as the plastic surgeon for the Dallas Stars hockey team.
