Biography

Dr. Valentine graduated from Emory University School of Medicine in 1980 and completed a residency in general surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1985. He completed a vascular fellowship at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1986. Following a four-year tour of active duty in the United States Navy, Dr. Valentine joined the faculty at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in July of 1990 as an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate professor in 1993 and to professor in 1999. Currently at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, he is the vice chair of the department of surgery and program director of the surgery residency program, associate director of the Center for Vascular Disease and the director of the Vascular Surgery Clinic at Parkland Memorial Hostpital. He is past president of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery and the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery. Dr. Valentine is a past member of the editorial board for the Journal of Vascular Surgery, and he is currently on the editorial boards for Vascular, American Surgeon, and the Journal of Surgical Education. He is a Director on the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Valentine’s research interests include premature atherosclerosis and postgraduate surgical education.
