Biography

I joined UT Southwestern in September 2011 as Instructor in Biochemistry. In this position I am responsible for bioinformatics support within the Proteomics Core and Mirzaei Lab, and carry out research and software development in proteomics data analysis.

I initially studied computer science at the University of Exeter, Devon, UK, gaining my BSc in 2004. After completing my undergraduate studies I pursued a PhD in computer science, also at the University of Exeter. The focus of my PhD studies was the development of novel neural-network algorithms for classification problems involving peptides and proteins, and I gained my doctorate in 2008. Following a short spell as a teaching fellow at Exeter I joined the University of Oxford in 2008 as a bioinformatician in proteomics. Between 2008 and 2011 I provided bioinformatics support for the proteomics core facilities, and carried out research in proteomics data analysis. From 2009 to 2011 I was additionally a member of the Ratcliffe/Pugh oxygen sensing laboratory, heavily involved in the study of oxygen sensing via oxidative post-translational modifications on proteins.
