Biography

Dr. Smith received a BA in Biology at The Colorado College, and attended medical school at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock. She went on to pursue an internship in the Department of Medicine at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, OH, where she completed her residency training in ophthalmology. Prior to her arrival in Texas, Dr. Smith undertook a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and genetic eye disease at The Cleveland Clinic/Cole Eye Institute in Cleveland.

Specializing in pediatric ophthalmology, Dr. Smith’s clinical interests encompass genetic diseases of the eye, many of which bridge childhood to adulthood e.g. juvenile x-linked retinoschisis; retinitis pigmentosa; cone dystrophy, Lebers congenital amaurosis; Stargardts disease; choroideremia; albinism; congenital stationary night blindness; and aniridia.

Retinopathy of prematurity, strabismus treatment and surgery, cataract surgery and lens implants, and inherited eye disorders (juvenile x-linked retinoschisis; retinitis pigmentosa; cone dystrophy, Lebers congenital amaurosis; Stargardts disease; choroideremia; albinism; congenital stationary night blindness; and aniridia)
