Biography

Dr. Goodenberger currently serves as Chief of the Medical Service at the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center and as Vice-Chair for the department of internal medicine. Trained as a pulmonologist, the major focus of his career has been medical education. After overseeing the pulmonary fellowship at Washington University, for 15 years he was the director of the internal medicine training program at Barnes Hospital and its successor, Barnes-Jewish Hospital. For the last 8 of those years, he was also the director of the division of medical education at Washington University. Dr. Goodenberger was responsible for the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education in internal medicine, as well as the recurring publication of the Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics and its spinoffs. For the two years immediately preceding his joining the faculty at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 2008, he served as Chairman of Medicine at the University of Nevada. His principle clinical interest is in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. He directed one of the first six centers of excellence in North America at Washington University, and in the final eight years, treated 346 patients with HHT. Dr. Goodenberger also has an interest in the respiratory problems of patients with muscular dystropy and related problems, and is expert in non-invasive ventilation and ventilator speech.
