Biography
Dr. Adams received his BA, MS and PhD degrees in Psychology from Florida State University. His research has focused largely on the effects of a range of different drug treatments on behavior and central nervous system function. He has published more than 60 articles or book chapters. He has also written and lectured widely on the ethics of research and the conduct of science. In his capacity as Associate Dean for Research the Clinical Trials Office (CTO), and the Office of Grants Management (OGM) report to him. Dr. Adams is also the Associate Director of the NIH-Funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, and was named the Margaret D. Harris Professor in Alzheimer's Research. In addition, he is Co-Director of the NIH-Funded Clinical Research Curriculum Program designed to prepare young physicians for a career in patient-oriented research. He has served as a reviewer for numerous scientific journals and funding agencies and as a member on scientific association boards. Of particular significance was the serving as Chair of the American Psychological Association Committee on Animal Research and Experimentation from 1980-82 during which he testified on the benefits of animal research to the congressional inquiry panel reviewing the value of animal investigation. Dr. Adams also served on the Office of Technology Assessment Panel Reviewing Alternatives to Animal Use in Testing and Experimentation from 1984-85. He is also currently serving on the UT Southwestern Compliance Committee and on the UT System State-Wide Compliance Committee.
