 RESEARCH OVERVIEW

Despite its importance in maintaining life, energy homeostasis is often affected in patients with psychiatric disorders (e.g., depression and anorexia nervosa). My laboratory is thus interested in understanding the molecular and neuroanatomic basis that links metabolism and emotion. We utilize combinations of methods including tract-tracing, viral-mediated gene transfer, metabolic and behavioral assay, qPCR, and the use of genetically-engineered mice. To complement and extend the mouse studies, we analyze the expression of relevant genes in postmortem human brains.

 RESEARCH INTERESTS

Limbic circuitries that link emotion and energy homeostasis
Brain reward pathways
