 RESEARCH OVERVIEW
 
Dr. Freeman established the Women’s Mental Health Program at the University of Arizona in 2000, and served as its director for seven years. She recently moved to the University of Texas- Southwestern in Dallas to direct the Women’s Mental Health Center, where she is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology. The program includes research, clinical, and teaching components, with an emphasis on mood and anxiety disorders across the female reproductive cycle. Dr. Freeman is the Vice Editor-in-Chief of for The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, and she edits the Focus on Women’s Mental Health specialty section for the journal. Dr. Freeman chaired the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Subcommittee on Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Psychiatry (2003-2006) and is a member of the APA’s Major Depressive Disorder Practice Guidelines Revision Committee. She is the Chair of the APA’s Task Force on Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
Dr. Freeman directs a clinical research program in Women’s Mental Health. She has obtained research support from federal, state, and foundation grants. Her research program is focused on mood disorders in the context of reproductive events.
