 RESEARCH OVERVIEW

Congenital anomalies of the bladder are a common cause of chronic renal failure and urinary incontinence in children. Dr. Wilcox’s laboratory is investigating the impact of excessive stretch on normal and abnormal bladder development. This research involves both laboratory based and clinical studies, specifically looking at the effect of bladder outlet obstruction, spina bifida and anorectal (cloacal) anomalies on bladder function. We hope these studies will improve our understanding of these conditions and direct future treatments.

 RESEARCH INTERESTS

Bladder evolution in patients born with anorectal and cloacal anomalies
The effect of stretch on fetal bladder development
