My clinical and scientific interests revolve around the treatment and management of patients with heart failure and the molecular mechanisms underlying this clinical entity. Scientifically, my laboratory is interested in investigating how regulation of the metabolic and redox states of myocytes can be modulated to serve as potential therapeutic targets for various cardiomyopathies. Specifically, the laboratory is focused on the transcriptional regulation and functional roles of tissue hemoproteins within the heart. These tissue hemoproteins may serve to facilitate oxygen transport, act as oxygen sensors, scavenge free radicals, and/or maintain nitric oxide homeostasis within the cardiomyoctye. Ultimately, the ability to selectively regulate the metabolic and redox states within heart may provide opportunities for the development of novel therapeutic approaches to the treatment of patients with heart failure.
