 RESEARCH OVERVIEW

Working on how calcium signaling is transducted and/or translated into precise transmitted information to regulate a variety of cellular functions from exocytosis to gene regulation.
To control the downstream messengers and effectors, cells generate precisely defined Ca2+ signals, often in the form of propagating Ca2+ waves, or by assembling Ca2+ signaling complexes in cellular microdomains. Electrophysiological, confocal and TIRF imaging techniques are used to monitor Ca2+ in subcellular compartments and to follow the activity of Ca2+ pumps and channels. These approaches are complemented by a variety of molecular techniques to study organization of Ca2+ signaling complexes.
Another interest is function and regulation of ion transport in epithelial cells. Current focus is on SLC26A transporters and purinergic receptors.
