 RESEARCH OVERVIEW

My laboratory is primarily focused on research relating to how specific receptors regulate lymphocyte function. Our current efforts are aimed at receptors common to both the innate and adaptive immune response. We are interested in defining how these receptors transmit signals to natural killer cells and T and B lymphocytes to regulate their behavior with regards to infection, tumors and autoimmunity. We are especially focused on the molecular mechanisms whereby these lymphocytes integrate the various signals generated by the engagement of these receptors and we wish to define methods to manipulate these events to allow us to modify immune responses in vivo. Our current studies have focused on a family of receptors (the SLAM family) that are involved in fatal lymphoproliferative disorders and the autoimmune disorder lupus.
