This laboratory has changed its primary focus over the last several years. In the past, we focused on important clinical issues in drug hypersensitivity. However, now our primary research efforts are related to pediatric asthma. We have recently completed a large multi-center NIH-funded study that evaluated the relationship between indoor allergens and pollutants and asthma-associated morbidity in inner city children with asthma. We now are involved in another multi-center NIH-funded inner city pediatric asthma study that is evaluating the effectiveness of various immunomodulatory interventions in children with asthma. In addition to the clinical projects, our group is carrying out mechanistic studies that will attempt to dissect the mechanisms responsible for the clinical effects of the immunomodulatory agents.
