 RESEARCH OVERVIEW

Dr. Tiro’s program of research focuses on understanding and promoting the appropriate use of health behaviors to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality. My work applies and tests behavioral theories to identify the factors influencing the uptake of cancer screening tests and the HPV vaccine and to design and evaluate interventions promoting these health care technologies. The general goal of my research is to understand not only how people decide to get screened or vaccinated, but also how information about new and emerging technologies from multiple sources (e.g., media, pharmaceutical companies, friends and family) are received and acted upon by populations who experience cancer disparities.
