 PERSONAL OVERVIEW
     
Dr. Pier Paolo Scaglioni received his M.D. degree in 1989 from the University of Modena, Italy. After completing a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Modena in, in 1993 he joined as a post-doctoral associate the laboratory of Dr. Jack R. Wands at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center where he studied the mechanisms leading to hepatitis B virus induced liver disease. Subsequently, Dr. Scaglioni the residency program in Internal Medicine at the Albert Einstein Medical College (1998-2001) and a Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (2001-2005). During oncology training he focused his interests on hemopoietic malignancies and in 2002 he joined the laboratory of Dr. Pier Paolo Pandolfi where he initiated studies to elucidate the mechanisms controlling the Promyelocytic Leukemia gene tumor suppressive function. In 2005 Dr. Scaglioni joined as a Faculty Member the Hematology Service of Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In October 2006, Dr. Scaglioni became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology of the UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is leading the Cancer Signaling Laboratory of the Simmons Cancer Center while maintaining a limited oncology practice in the Bone Marrow Transplant program at UTSW.
Dr. Scaglioni has received several Awards including the ASCO Young Investigator Award, the CALGB Oncology Fellows Award, the Michael and Ethel L. Cohen Fellowship and the Charles A. Dana Clinical Scholarship.
Dr. Scaglioni enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his wife and daughter.
