After graduating from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, Dr Dobbie worked for 10 years as a rural family physician in the Scottish Borders before starting her academic career. She is board-certified on both sides of the Atlantic and has held faculty positions at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Imperial College, London, England and the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Dr Dobbie’s research interests in medical education include the role and contribution of Web-based learning, the teaching and learning of communication skills and cultural competency, and the personal and professional development of medical school faculty. Dr Dobbie is married to Jonathan, a CPA, and has one grown-up stepson.
