 PERSONAL OVERVIEW
     
Dr. Lara received his medical degree from the Escuela de Medicina Ignacio A. Santos-Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Mexico, the largest private university in Latin America. He completed his internship and internal medicine residency at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals at Canton where he also served as chief resident. He continued with a fellowship in gastroenterology at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, that included training in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. He then did an advanced fellowship in pancreatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, with a focus in clinical pancreatology. Dr. Lara joined the faculty of the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases at UT Southwestern in 2004. Research interests include endoscopic therapy, management of gastrointestinal hemorrhage and the pancreas. Dr. Lara has a special interest in developing therapeutic options for acute pancreatitis, establishing a pancreas cancer screening and surveillance program for high risk groups and continuing research in management of chronic pancreatitis and pancreas cysts.
