PERSONAL OVERVIEW
Dr. Shafi received his medical degree from the Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan. After spending some time in the field of public health, including a graduate degree from the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, he undertook a general surgery residency at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, at Newark, NJ. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in trauma surgery and surgical critical care at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. He joined the faculty at UT Southwestern the fall of 2003. His clinical practice consists of trauma surgery, emergency general surgery and surgical critical care. His research interests include injury prevention, trauma systems and outcomes research.
