 PERSONAL OVERVIEW
     
Dr. Verity received a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He began his career in ophthalmology research at the Doheny Eye Institute in Los Angeles as part of a federally funded NIH grant in Refractive Corneal Surgery. After developing techniques in corneal preservation, Dr. Verity moved to New Orleans where he joined the research team at the LSU Eye Center. Here he continued to work in the research labs while studying at the LSU School of Medicine. Dr. Verity applied tissue preservation techniques to a developing refractive corneal surgery procedure known as "epikeratophakia".

After medical school, Dr. Verity completed an internship and residency program in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. During this period of time, he expanded his research focus to include aspects of corneal healing and repair.
Dr. Verity entered a two-year fellowship in cornea/external disease and refractive surgery at the Saint Louis University Eye Institute. After completion of the fellowship, Dr. Verity remained as full-time faculty of the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology as an Assistant Professor.

Dr. Verity has authored several chapters for medical textbooks in ophthalmology and has published numerous scientific articles in the ophthalmic professional journals. He served as a principal investigator of the U.S. FDA clinical trial of the Intacs intrastromal corneal ring through all phases of the trial where he contributed greatly to the development of the procedure. He has presented numerous papers on the subject and has taught physicians how to perform the surgical technique internationally on three continents. Dr. Verity also participated in the clinical trial of the Autonomous LadarVision Laser. He has developed new surgical instrumentation for performing corneal transplantation and LASIK surgery and is a patent holder of other refractive surgery devices.

Dr. Verity is currently an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas as a member of the Cornea/External Disease and Refractive Surgery Service. His areas of interests include refractive surgery, corneal tissue preservation and transplantation.
