Dr. Monteggia received her undergraduate degree in Microbiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1989. She then went on to obtain her Masters degree in Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1991. Dr. Monteggia several years in the pharmaceutical industry concurrently working on her PhD in Neuroscience at Chicago Medical School which was awarded in 1998 under the direction of Marina Wolf.
Dr. Monteggia was a post-doctoral fellow at Yale University in the Laboratory of Molecular Psychiatry under the direction of Eric Nestler, M.D., PhD. She joined U.T. Southwestern in October of 2002 as an Assistant Professor and is interested in the molecular and cellular basis of neural plasticity as it pertains to neuropsychiatric disorders.
