Dr. Adams received a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Columbia College in NYC, and went on to earn a master’s degree in social/organizational psychology from Columbia University. After working several years in the business world, she returned to school at UT Southwestern Medical Center to earn a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Her clinical internship was served at Parkland Memorial Hospital’s inpatient and outpatient psychiatry units and at Southern Methodist University’s Mental Health Center. Dr. Adams went on to a post-doctoral fellowship at the Dallas VA Medical Center, with an emphasis on the assessment and treatment of substance disorders and trauma. She now engages in clinical, research and supervisory activities through the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern, and also lectures extensively in Southern Methodist University’s Department of Psychology.
