Robert H. Collins, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.P. is a Professor of Internal Medicine and Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program. He earned his M.D. degree from the six-year combined B.A./M.D. program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine were completed at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and his fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of California at Los Angeles. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He has over 12 years experience in bone marrow transplantation and has participated in approximately 1,500 autologous and allogeneic transplants. Dr. Collins holds the R. Lloyd and Willye V. Skaggs Professorship in Medical Research and the Sydney and J.L. Huffines Distinguished Chair in Cancer Research in Honor of Eugene Frenkel, M.D. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and is recognized by his peers in Best Doctors in America. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Dr. Collins is recognized as a leader in the field of adoptive immunotherapy and has directed studies of donor leukocyte infusions through an international network of over 100 centers. He is currently directing, in collaboration with the International Bone Marrow Transplant Registry, a multicenter trial of nonmyeloablative transplants in hematologic malignancies. He has published over 100 articles and abstracts in leading journals including New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Annals of Internal Medicine. Dr. Collins is an active clinician, focusing on hematologic malignancies (leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myelodysplasia) and bone marrow transplantation. He instructs medical students, residents and fellows in these disciplines at UT Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Collins enjoys reading, music, outdoor activities and spending time with his wife and three sons.
