 PERSONAL OVERVIEW
     
Dr. John E. McClay is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatric Otolaryngology in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Texas at Southwestern Medical Center (UT Southwestern) in Dallas, Texas and holder of the John W. and Rhonda K. Pate Professorship in Otolaryngology. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Otolaryngology.

He completed his Otolaryngology residency training and General Surgery internship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He pursued additional training through a Pediatric Otolaryngic Fellowship program at the Childrens National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He is a native Texan, graduating from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M with a
degree in Biochemistry.

He is a full time Academic Professor with a Clinical Practice and Teaching position at UT Southwestern Medical School. He takes care of all ear, nose, throat, neck, sinus and airway problems in children. He is the coordinator at UT Southwestern for the inter-institutional evaluation of the susceptibility of children develope laryngeal papillomatosis, organized through the Center for Genomics at Alleghaney Mecial Center in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He has headed up the collection of data at UT Southwestern for other inter-institutional studies involving laryngeal papillomatosis and foreign body aspiration and ingestion in children.

Current research interests include laryngotracheal stenosis and airway obstruction in children, deep neck infections in children, acute and chronic sinusitis in children, especially with nasal polyposis occurring in cystic fibrosis and allergic fungal sinusitis and developing dissolvable airway stents to relieve airway obstruction in children.

He has been a contributor of numerous presentations and publications. He has been invited to speak at national otolaryngic meetings and presented data at national and international scientific meetings. He has been voted as one of the best doctors for children in Dallas by D-magazine for 3 years running and voted best doctors in the state of Texas by Texas Monthly for 2 years running.
