Bartter Professor of Vitamin D Research in Internal Medicine, 1994 - Present; Serves as the Director of the General Clinical Research Center Core Laboratory, 2000-Present; Research interests are metabolic bone disease with special emphasis on osteoporosis; male osteoporosis and the role of sex steroids in the maintenance of bone mass; bone cell metabolism and role of various hormonal and growth factors on bone resorption and mineralization in metabolic bone disease as well as for connective tissue diseases; role of prostaglandins and COX-2 in bone remodeling; treatment modalities for postmenopausal osteoporosis; bone histomorphometry; non-invasive assessment of bone structure and strength; prevention of bone loss following skeletal unloading
