Born in Illinois, I went to Colorado College for an undergraduate degree in Biology, then on to Emory University for medical school. I moved to Dallas in 1985 for pathology training at UT Southwestern, meeting my future husband (not in the health care field!) almost as soon as I got to Dallas. I joined the faculty after graduation to practice and teach blood banking and transfusion medicine. I am currently Chief Medical Officer at Carter BloodCare, the community blood collection center, and medical director at Transplant Services Center, the campus eye and tissue bank.
