Dr. Purdue graduated from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1976 with a Doctor of Medicine degree. He completed his general surgery residency at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1981 followed by a fellowship in burn sugary at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 1981-82. Dr. Purdue joined the faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in July 1982 as an assistant professor and was promoted to professor in September 1994. Dr. Purdue specializes in burn surgery and is the Director of the burn unit at Parkland Memorial Hospital. Dr. Purdue is a Past President of the American Burn Association and currently serves on the Board of Trustees. He is the director of the Surgical Network Information Processing System (SNIPS) for the department. Dr. Purdue was named the Distinguished Physician of the Year along with Dr John Hunt by Parkland Memorial Hospital. In August 1999 Dr. Purdue was appointed Chief of the Section of Burns in the Burn/Trauma/Critical Division. He was awarded the first annual Laycock-Snyder Surgeon-Scholar Teaching Award in 1996 and again received the award in 2007. His research interests include all aspects of burn care.
