John L. Hunt, MD

Dr. Hunt, former chairman of the Division of Burn/Trauma/Critical Care, graduated in 1964 from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine degree. He completed his general surgery residency at the University or Cincinnati in 1971. Dr. Hunt jointed the faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in August 1974 as an assistant professor in surgery and was promoted to professor in 1985. He specializes in burn and trauma surgery. Dr. Hunt was Director of the Parkland Burn Center for 1981 - 1988 and Co-Director with Dr. Gary Purdue form 1988 - 2004. Dr. Hunt is a past president of the American Burn Association. He was named the Distinguished Physician of the Year along with Dr. Gary Purdue by Parkland Memorial Hospital. His excellence in teaching was also recognized by the Department of Surgery Chief Residents when they awarded him the 1999 Laycock-Snyder Teaching Award. His research interests include all aspects of burn care with special emphasis on resuscitation, hemodynamic monitoring, electric burns, and the pathophysiology of burn scar.
