Carroll W. Hughes, Ph.D., ABPP, joined the faculty at UTSWMC in 1989 as a full professor, and is currently active in the doctoral Clinical Psychology department where he teaches Statistics and Research Methods to graduate students and serves as dissertation chairs. He also teaches psychiatry residents and Child Fellows. He has directed or served on over 80 dissertation committees. Currently, his research focuses on exercise to treat depressed adolescents, dissemination of research information for pediatric psychiatry into the public sector, the impact of maternal depression on children and adolescents, and psychopharmacology and psychotherapy in pediatric depression and ADHD. He is also involved in the development of treatment algorithms for pediatric depression and ADHD, as well as the development of rating scales for pediatric psychiatry. Dr. Hughes has over 100 publications involving psychiatric disorders mostly in children and adolescents. Formerly,Dr. Hughes also served as the Director of Psychology at Terrell State Hospital in Terrell, Texas for 12 years. As such, he was the supervisor of a 32-member department and APA approved internship program.
