Dr. Giesecke was born in Oklahoma but raised and educated in Texas. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, graduating in 1957. After serving as a Flight Surgeon in the US Army, he completed a residency and fellowship in anesthesiology at UT Southwestern. He has devoted his career to improving the care of the traumatized patient. He became a professor in 1970, was named the Jenkins Professor in 1974 and was chairman of the department from 1981 to 1992.
