Dr. Diaz-Arrastia is Professor of Neurology, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, and Director of the North Texas TBI Research Center. Dr. Diaz-Arrastia received his MD and PhD degrees at Baylor College of Medicine in 1988, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. After a 1-year medicine internship at Beth Israel Hospital and the Harvard Medical School, he completed his neurology residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, which is recognized as one of the leading training programs for academic neurologists in the US. In 1993 he accepted an appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at UT Southwestern, where he has risen through the ranks and promoted to Professor in 2006. Dr. Diaz-Arrastia is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Diaz-Arrastia?s research interests are focused in the area of understanding the molecular, cellular, and tissue level mechanisms of secondary neuronal injury and neuroregeneration. Dr. Diaz-Arrastia heads the The North Texas TBI Research Center, a collaboration between the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) and Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation (BIR). Investigators at these institutions, specializing in neurology, neurosurgery, trauma surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neuropsychology, and neuroradiology, have worked together since 2000 in local and multicenter research projects. Dr. Diaz-Arrastia also heads the Clinical Core of the UT Southwestern Alzheimer’s Disease Center.
