Joyce P. Barnett, MS, RD, LD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor and has been on the faculty of the UT Southwestern Department of Clinical Nutrition since 1987. Mrs. Barnett served as Program Director of the Coordinated Program in Dietetics from 1999-2002. She received a BS degree in Foods and Nutrition from North Texas State University and an MS in Clinical Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She has practiced in the field of dietetics for over 30 years and has extensive experience in dietetics education. In addition to teaching CD 4331 Nutrition and Growth and Development, Mrs. Barnett also Joyce coordinates CD 4232 Pediatric Medical Nutrition Therapy. Mrs. Barnett has clinical experience in the areas of diabetes and weight management and has written book chapters and journal articles on these topics. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group. Mrs. Barnett was named Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year for the state of Maryland in 1976 and Outstanding Dietetic Educator for Coordinated Programs in Texas in 1997. Prior to joining the faculty of UT Southwestern, Mrs. Barnett lived in Pakistan, Germany, and the Philippines for a period of 5 years. Mrs. Barnett likes to grow herbs in her garden and enjoys reading historical novels and mystery books.
